Veteran teachers are educators who...

COMMITMENT

Veteran teachers are COMMITTED.  They want to teach and enjoy working with students. In an era of significant teacher shortages, veteran teachers are an invaluable resource. They continue to teach year in and year out despite numerous challenges. By choosing to remain a teacher, veteran teachers demonstrate their deep commitment to the practice of teaching. Through their commitment, they embody a belief in the fundamental importance of the teacher/student relationship.

EXPERIENCE

Veteran teachers are EXPERIENCED. Veteran teachers have years of experience modifying curriculum, interacting with parents and administration, and adapting to change. Where others have given up in frustration, veteran teachers have learned through practice how to thrive and continue doing what they love.

KNOWLEDGE

Veteran teachers are KNOWLEDGEABLE. Through trial and error, study, and persistence, veteran teachers have an expansive understanding of students, curriculum, and pedagogy. Veteran teachers have taught across subjects and grades throughout their tenure. They bring this diversity of knowledge to their classrooms, houses of worship, non-profit organizations, museums, libraries, and stages. Their lessons are layered, reflective of a deep well of understanding, and draw on an eclectic range of methods and practices.

On a daily basis, in every corner of Kansas, veteran teachers demonstrate how their commitment, experience, and knowledge are vital to the success of Kansas education.
